e-Apostille and e-Register

Category e-Apostille Author John Nelson Date 11 Aug 2026
e-Register offers a seamless way to verify the authenticity of an apostille, typically using the apostille number. Almost every state in the USA features a "Verification of Authentication (Apostille)" page or link on the website of the "Designated Competent Authority." lIn the state of California the Designated Competent Authority is the California Secretary of State.

e-Apostille refers to apostilles that have been issued electronically, rather than through traditional hard copy legalization, by a Competent Designated Authority where this process is legally permitted. In the United States, the availability of this electronic legalization method varies by state and is often found in states that also support Remote Online Notarization (RON). However, it is important to exercise caution with e-Apostille and confirm that it will be accepted by the receiving country. Technically, because of the agreement between the members of the Hague convention, a correctly generated e-Apostille should not be rejected by another Hague country. Please note that this rule does not nesessarily apply to Non-Hague countries.
